Theatre
I was born on 21st June 1963 in Białystok.
I graduated from the Academy of Theatrical Arts in Kraków in
1987
and I started working as an actor of Narodowy Stary Teatr (the National
Old Theatre) in Kraków in September of that year, where I have
been working until today.
I have worked with such great directors as Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Jarocki,
Tadeusz Bradecki Rudolf Zioło, Filip Bajon, Marek Fiedor, Andreas
Wirth, Jerzy Stuhr.
As an actor I took part in many productions of National Old Theatre:
"Kaspar" by Peter Handke directed by Andreas Wirth; "The
Wedding Party" by Stanisław Wyspiański directed by
Andrzej Wajda; "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" by Bertolt
Brecht directed by Tadeusz Bradecki;
"The Manuscript Found in Saragossa" by Jan Potocki directed
by Tadeusz Bradecki; "The Dybbuk" by Szymon An-ski directed
by Andrzej Wajda; "Faust" by Johan Wolfgang Goethe directed
by Jerzy Jarocki; "The Operetta" by Witold Gombrowicz directed
by Tadeusz Bradecki and many others...
I was awarded a special prize of the Director of National Old Theatre
for the role of Dancer-killer in "The Resistible Rise of Arturo
Ui" by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Tadeusz Bradecki.
I also received very good reviews from the International Jury during
the official press conference for the role of Fior - Kopyrda in a production
of "The Operetta" by W. Gombrowicz, directed by T. Bradecki,
awarded the Grand Prix of the International Theatrical Festival -
Mes' 97 in Sarajevo.
Radio
From the beginning of my studies in 1983
I have been co-operating with Radio Kraków,
first as an actor who read various texts for the radio, then (in the
nineties) also as one of its recognisable voices appearing exclusively
on Radio Kraków.
From 1995 to 1998 I worked there as Advertisement Production Manager,
directing commercial spots and sometimes acting in them.
I am still connected with the Kraków radio station.
In 2001 I directed an audio recording of "The Trilogy " by
H. Sienkiewicz for Universal Polska (released on CDs).
"Colonel Wołodyjowski" - read by Artur Dziurman,
"The Deluge" - read by Krzysztof Globisz (I also made
an adaptation of that novel)
"With Fire and Sword" - read by Jacek Chmielnik
In 2003 I directed and read an audio book version of "Adventures
of Sherlock Holmes" by A. Conan - Doyle
It was difficult, but rewarding. It gave me a lot of satisfaction.
I like directing soundtracks.
Cabaret
Since 1991 I have been involved in cabaret
work too (As co-founder and co-owner and actor) first with Kabaret Somgorsi,
then (we changed the name) with Kabaret pod Wyrwigroszem.
Since 1997, the year of a memorable benefis for Iwona Bielska at the
Stu Theatre broadcast by Polish television, our cabaret has been present
on the Polish entertainment market.
One year later we recorded our two, one-hour-long programmes for TVP2
of the national television and some short programmes for Canal+.
Since then we have been frequently asked to participate in various TV
shows for numerous channels, both public and private, such as TVP1,
TVP2, Polonia, Polsat.
We have been frequent guests of Cabaret Festivals in Mrągowo
and Koszalin, the most important cabaret events in Poland.
In 2001 I took part in a six-part TV - series Klinika pod Wyrwigroszem,
where I played the role of Grześ - a doctor in that clinic.
The series received very good reviews and was watched by over 8 percent
of Polish viewers.
SPOT Actor's Studio
I have been working at the SPOT actor's
studio for many years (since 1992). I help young adepts to breathe and
speak in a proper manner. I teach them voice enunciation, prepare them
for reading texts on the radio, and train them to work with the microphone
in the recording studio.
At the beginning I also taught my students English pronunciation and
how to prepare for acting in English. (They were expected to prepare
Shakespearean monologues.)
English language experience
In 1989 I received the English Language
State Certificate.
In the same year I was director Andrzej Wajda's interpreter during
his rehearsals of "The Dybbuk" by Sz. Anski . (I was asked
to do this by the Director of the National Old Theatre where I was beginning
my acting career then. I didn't dare to refuse him. It was a great experience
and... It happened to be very rewarding for me)
In 1992 I was the bilingual compere at an open-air 4th of July celebration
at the Skra stadium in Warsaw.
In 1993 I was engaged as a dance leader at a ball for American psychiatrists,
where I was responsible for conducting the whole event. (In English)
Between the years 1994 and 1997 I co-operated with The English Department
at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Together with dr Władysław
Witalisz we taught students how to cope with Shakespeare's original
text on the stage. The class ended with a performance of scenes
from Shakespeare shown to professors and students from their faculty.
It was a great experience for me (as an actor and director) and...for
them (as my potential audience) too.
In 1997 I co-operated in preparing Polish dubbing of American films
for a Hungarian Dubbing Firm and then I directed Polish dubbing recordings
with actors of National Old Theatre in Oradea, Romania.
In 1999 I took part in recording an English audio-guide for tourists
visiting the Salt Mine in Wieliczka.
In 2000 I directed and appeared in an English show organised in the
Japanese Mangha Centre in Kraków by Mitsubishi Electric as part
of their world promotion of Doctor Q (a computer managing production
processes in factories).
In 2002 I was the English-language compere at "The Highlander's
Evening" in the Wawel Castle Kraków.
In 2003 I was a presenter, both in English and Polish, at the 80th anniversary
of Krosno Glass Factories in the Salt Mine of Wieliczka.
In that same I recorded the English voice-over for a Polish film about
First Aid in Car Accidents produced by Łukasz Rybarski (Arlekin
Studio) for the Israeli Television.
In 2004 I recorded English voice-over for the film "Those Who Acted",
produced by Polish/ American/ Jewish Alliance for Youth Action, Inc.
